COVID-19 and Pets

Vet Med Open House CANCELLED:

With the understanding that the safety and health of our students, faculty, staff and local communities are of critical importance to Western University of Health Sciences, the WesternU College of Veterinary Medicine has decided to cancel the annual Vet Med Open House event scheduled for April 4, 2020.

The College already is hard at work on next year’s event, and everyone involved is excited about what promises to be the best Vet Med Open House yet.

Dr. Dominique Griffon portraitJULY 2020 – Western University of Health Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine’s Associate Dean for Research, Dr. Dominique Griffon, announces the completion, and launch of the video “Biocompatibility and Application of Allogenic Canine Fascia Lata”. This video is based on a case series and in vitro study showing that allogenic canine fascia lata can be a suitable alternative for treating soft tissue defects in dogs….

FEB. 2020 – Western University of Health Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine Associate Professor Jijun Hao, PhD, and Associate Professor Dr. Gagandeep Kaur, DVM, PhD, have received a grant from the American College of Veterinary Dermatology to examine the sensitivity and specific of some ‘promising’ biomarkers to canine Atopic Dermatitis….

2020  California Temporary License Curriculum (CaTLC)

March 18-20, 2020 POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
The California Temporary License Curriculum (CaTLC) is specifically designed to meet or exceed the requirements of California laws governing veterinary licensure in California.  The California Veterinary Medicine Practice Act covers the requirements for veterinarians licensed in other states, Canadian provinces, or United States territories and wishing to become licensed in California via the reciprocity process. Calanimals: animal care conference 2020

March 22-24, 2020 (w/ PreConference Workshop March 21) CANCELLED

This yearly event brings together animal control officers, humane officers, animal care attendants, behaviorists, humane educators, shelter directors, veterinarians, RVTs, customer service representatives, all law enforcement personnel, and other animal-sheltering professionals.

2020 CE Laparoscopy Courses

May 16-17, 2020 – CE Laparoscopy Course for DVM Practitioners CANCELLED

This two day course is an intensive practical skills course intended to train small animal practitioners in laparoscopic surgery. The course is limited to nine veterinarians and four veterinary technicians and includes hands on surgery procedures. In keeping with our college’s reverence for life mission, all animals that participate in the lab are returned to their owners afterward and are having only medically necessary procedures.

2020 VIRTUAL NATIONAL VETERINARY SCHOLARS SYMPOSIUM (in person event cancelled) – Aug. 4-6, 2020

WesternU and UCSD Joint Vertical Aerial View

Plans for Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU) and the University of California San Diego (UCSD) to host the in-person 2020 National Veterinary Scholars Symposium (July 31 – August 2, 2020) was cancelled. Now to be held as a virtual event on Aug. 4-6, 2020, NVSS remains the premier annual scientific colloquium which showcases research accomplishments by veterinary students completing summer research internships. It provides an opportunity for students participating in the Boehringer Ingelheim Veterinary Scholars program to present their research findings by oral and/or poster presentation.

Haines, a passionate and vocal supporter of the health and well-being of horses.
